In the spirit of Olympics, politics should be separated from sports. Of course, in reality, Olympics is conveniently used as a platform to push the agenda of nations. It is sad as could be seen from some of the past Olympics. Fortunately, the recent strife between Georgia and Russia has not affected the sportsmanship of the ladies in the shooting competition.
For that, I want to give them my greatest salute.
For Singapore which has always prided ourselves for our independence against the likes of Superpower as in the case of (the) Michael Fay case, I am proud that we will (be) holding our Youth Olympics in 2010. I strongly believe it will be an astounding success.”
