Super Tuesday refers to a Tuesday in February or March of a presidential election year when the largest number of states in America hold either caucuses or primary elections for one or both parties.
In the 2008 Presidential Election, Super Tuesday falls on February 5 and 24 states will simultaneously vote for their choice presidential nominees. This date will account for 52 per cent of total pledged delegates from the Democrats and 41 per cent from the Republicans.
Candidates bank heavily on victories on Super Tuesday to secure their party’s nomination as more delegates can be won from this day than on any other single day of the primary calendar. The competition heats up as candidates eye the delegate rich states including California, Illinois and New York. |
