Australia has a bicameral Parliament which combines some of the features of the British Parliament with those of the United States Congress.
The Australian Parliament consists of three components: the Queen, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The Queen is usually represented by the Governor-General.
The Lower House, the House of Representatives currently has 150 members elected from single-member constituencies or seats for three-year terms.
The Upper house, the Senate consists of 76 members - twelve for each state and two for each mainland territory. |
