Singapore's Olympic medal quest which had the entire little island behind the women's table tennis team, has ended with a silver medal. The team of Li Jiawei,Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu went down 3-0 in a hard-fought bout against China. But it was a medal nonetheless for Singapore which last saw an Olympic win in 1964.
In the pool, America's Michael Phelps has emerged as the athlete with the midas touch, taking eight gold medals and demolishing records in his wake.
With the theme of One World,One Dream, the Beijing Olympics which opened on 8 August at 2008hrs in a spectacular visual feast, has run fairly smoothly despite some clouds of controversy mainly off the sports field.
All eyes are now on the final strecth of the XXIX Olympiad and the country that will emerge top of the medal table.
