The second stretch of the Budget debates will see details on Singapore housing, education and health plans coming under the scrutiny of MPs. The annual marathon session opened Tuesday 2 March with Members of Parliament (MPs) questioning the pace and desired outcomes of the fiscal plan outlined by Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam who delivered the Budget Statement on February 22.

Under the 2010 Budget, the Government will set aside S$5.5 billion over the next five years to fuel initiatives aimed at raising productivity to sustain growth.

This will be in the form of tax benefits, grants and training subsidies to help enterprises and workers deepen their skills and expertise and support Singapore companies grow more competitively globally.

Acting Minister for MICA, RAdm(NS) Lui Tuck Yew, elaborated on measures available to assist ICT companies gain access to overseas markets, and help SMEs gain local and international recognition. He announced that MDA will now require Pay TV retailers to cross-carry each other's contents that are acquired exclusively – this applies to exclusive agreements entered into on or after 12 Mar 2010.
