Busan, Korea - North Korean Ri Song-hui
broke world records in the Asian Games 53kg women's weightlifting
final on Tuesday.
The Olympic silver medallist's efforts in shedding 0.25kg - equivalent
to a can of Coke - to compete in the 53kg weight category paid off
when she lifted a total of 225kg to take gold.
Earlier, the 23-year-old surpassed the previous world mark when
she lifted 102.5kg in the women's snatch section of the sport. She
smashed the 100kg set record set in the 2000 Olympic Games by China's
Yang Xia and equalled Yang's total world mark of 225kg.
Thailand's Polsak Udomporn, who was second in last year's Asian
Championships, took the silver and the current world number one
Meng Xianjuan of China bagged the bronze.
