The Event

The 14th Busan Asian Games will start on September 29 and end on October 14.

Athletes from 44 countries will meet in Busan Metropolitan City, as well as Ulsan Metropolitan City, Changwon City, Masan City and Yangsan City during the 16-day event.

Turn-out

The 14th Busan Asian Games Organising Committee (BAGOC) anticipates athletes and officials turning up for the games to number around 11,000 athletes and officials from the 44 member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Busan City

Busan is a city on the lower Southeastern side of the Korean Peninsula. It shares the same latitude with other international cities such as Baghdad, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Thus, the local time is around 9 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean time.

Pusan or Busan?

If you are unsure if it is Pusan or Busan, we assure you it's the latter.

Busan used to be called Pusan. However, since the city won its bid to host this year's Asian Games, it has adopted a new Romanisation system for the Korean language, which led to the change in the spelling of thousands of words, including the name of the host city.

The Mascot

Chai-Yo was the mascot for the 13th Asian Games at Bangkok in 1998.
