Singapore
Management University has announced the launch of the second Lee
Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition with a total prize money
of nearly US$70,000.
The
LKY Global Business Plan Competition, which was first launched in
October 2001, provides a unique platform for budding entrepreneurs
to showcase their ideas.
The
young minds will have the opportunity to test their ideas and pit
their business skills against other students from top universities.
In
the process, undergraduates will be able to interact with venture
capitalists in the hope of securing funding.
This
competition is in line with Singapore's efforts to attract promising
entrepreneurs to build and grow their business here.
SMU
president, Professor Ronald Frank said the university was highly
encouraged by the response to the inaugural competition in 2001,
which drew 203 entries from 73 universities spanning 19 countries.
The
judging criteria will be based on six main points including the
product's competitive advantage and the viability of the business
plan.
Global
Business Plan Competition is open to all tertiary students around
the world and is organised with advisory assistance from the Wharton
School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Teams
that make it to the final will receive up to two return tickets
and hotel accommodation in Singapore to compete in the final. Closing
date for the competition is 24 March, 2004.
