Getting Around
Kuala Lumpur 's Taxi
Service
There are two kinds of taxis in KL - metered and non-metered.
Non-metered taxis usually charge a higher fare than metered
taxis.
The fare is based on the distance travelled and the time when
the taxi is stationary at traffic lights and during traffic
jams. The single passenger is charged RM2 for the first 2
km and RM0.10sen for every 200 metres, and RM2.00 for the
first two minutes and RM0.10sen for every 45 seconds. If there
are extra passengers (more than 2), then there will be an
extra charge of RM0.20sen.
Short trips around the city cost about RM5
while trips across the inner city areas are anything between
RM10 - RM15. Luggage stored in the trunk will be an additional
RM1.00, and a fee of RM1.00 will be imposed for telephoning
for a taxi.
Taxis are available round the clock but there
will be a 50% surcharge on the metered fare from midnight
to 6 a.m. Taxi stands are commonly found beside bus-stops.
Taxis which operate outside the railway station use the coupon
system. Coupons are available for sale outside Platform 4.
