Kuala Lumpur 's Train
Services
There are two rail systems in Kuala Lumpur.
KTM Komuter
These city trains are efficient. They stop at various city
stations, are an ideal way travel to places outside of the
city.
The first line provides service for the north-south
route,starting at Sentul and terminating at Port Klang. En
route, it passes Shah Alam and Klang. The second starts from
Rawang (20 km and goes all the way to Seremban in neighbouring
Negeri Sembilan, 66 km south-east of KL.)
Train tickets start from RM1 and can be purchased
from stations and automatic machines at the various stops.
Saver passes are also available with durations of one week
up to one year.
Light Rail Transit
With its minimum fare of 75 sen, the light rail transit is
a marvelous and cheap way to see KL.
The Star LRT starts from Sentul Timur, in northern
KL and heads south, via Masjid Jamek and Pudu. The Putra LRT
runs the southeast route. Starting at Gombak in north-east
KL, it passes the Benteng station, KL Sentral (at Grand Central)
station and Universiti Malaya before ending up at Subang Jaya,
on the western outskirts of the city.
The LRT operates from 6 a.m. - 12.00 midnight
daily and tickets are available at the offices outside each
station. On sale also are stored-value tickets of RM20 and
RM50. Maps and booklets are also available at each station.
Coming soon: Monorail
(People-Mover Rapid Transit - PRT)
It will run south from Jalan Tun Razak near the
Jalan Pekelling bus station, to end on the south-western outskirts
of the city at Kampung Pasir. Along the way, it will pass
the Golden Triangle. The monorail is to connect with the Putra
LRT as well as the Star LRT at various stations in the city.
