SQ 006 Crew Will Return To Taipei For Interview

They are motivated to do what is honorable and public support locally and internationally has been a great morale booster.

The Air Line Pilots Association Singapore (ALPA-S) has been informed by the three Singapore Airlines pilots involved in the SQ006 accident in Chiang Kai Shek Airport on 31 October 2000, that they will return to Taipei to be interviewed by the Public Prosecutor's office there.

ALPA-S will provide the three pilots - Captain Foong Chee Kong and Flight Officers Ng Kheng Leng and Latiff Cyrano - with full moral and financial support to bring about a closure to this unfortunate incident.

During their stay in Taipei, Singapore Airlines has assigned a buddy-senior pilot to be with them. This is to ensure that all their needs are met adequately and satisfactorily.

The three pilots, their families and the association have been deeply touched by the overwhelming public support they have received locally and internationally the past 18 months. After the release of the accident investigation report by the Taiwanese authorities last week, many have called to volunteer financial support.

Captain Frank John, Vice-President (Industrial) of ALPA-S, said: "We have received many calls on the phone and email, expressing unreserved support of our crew. Many have volunteered to contribute towards a trust fund to meet various expenses related to the incident."

Those who wish to support the SQ 006 crew may visit the ALPA-S web site (www.alpas.org/SQ006).

ALPA-S has already commenced the support drive among its more than 1200 members, and the response has been very positive and encouraging.

"Internally, the level of support shows a great camaraderie and sense of fraternity among our members, mainly Singapore Airlines and Silk Air pilots. It is highly evident of a collegiate that we are truly proud of, and one which SIA and Silk Air have reason to cherish," added Captain Frank John.
