ALPA-S statement on
ASC's report on the SQ006 accident
26/4/2002
In line with the position of IFALPA, the Air
Line Pilots Association Singapore wish to state categorically
that the conclusions contained in the Report of the Aviation
Safety Council (ASC) of Taiwan seem to be at variance with
the reported facts in several particulars.
The ASC Report has highlighted pilot error as the probable
cause. The attempt to label various causal factors as "risk
factors" seem to call into question the partiality of
the Report. It does not serve any purpose, but a play of words.
We believe the analysis was flawed and could be dramatically
improved.
We fully support the goal of the investigation to improve
safety. We feel unfortunately the analysis has marred an otherwise
excellent investigation.
The Air Line Pilots Association Singapore will in due course,
after further deliberation with IFALPA and aviation accident
experts, expand upon the perceived deficiencies in the Taiwan
ASC Report.
We regret that such an event took place. The grief that resulted
still remains. But it is critical in the aviation industry
that Accident Reports are impartial and relentless in the
pursuit of the Truth.
