Join your hosts on a train ride to Nagasaki travelling north from Nigata station. Along the way, visit an old tea shop which has been producing tea since the Edo era and where you can try out the locally-made tea. During the stop in Murakami a castle town facing the Sea of Japan, visit shops that sell salmon which the area is famous for since the Heian Era.

Travel on to Kuwagawa station where you can sight-see by boat and watch how salt is made from the clean Sasagawa seawater.

The next stop would be Nezugaseki, a fishery town. This is where you get to see local squid laid out to dry. Proceed to Atsumi Hot Springs to rest and enjoy delicious seafood. Not to be missed is Uzen Oyama where there’s a beautiful aquarium which displays the most number of jellyfish in the world.

The other route is by Matsuura Railway.

Get off at Tsukinokawa station in Matsuura city which is one of the more famous places for horse mackerels in Japan which can be savoured at the huge fish market or at restaurants that cook the fish in many different ways.

After enjoying the taste of Matsuura, head to Hirado island, the castle town from the age of Great Voyages. Here, you can visit a teahouse for tea and Japanese sweets from the Edo era.
