A journey to discover hidden views continues at this mountain village area behind Mt. Kurodaki Fudoji temple that lies deep in the mountain up a steep path. The most dangerous part is called Umanose (Horse Back) but it also offers the most beautiful view. Climb down to stay at ryokan in Ueno Village from Nanmoku village. The inn, Yamabiko-So was re-opened in 2003 after renovation and played host to the Crown Prince who once stayed overnigt. It's quiet and relaxing and offers a superb view even from the bath.The inn offers a cave bath which is open-air. Dinner is made of local ingredients such as leaf ginger and eschalot, deep fried loach and chestnuts and trout with Eryngii mushroom. There's also wild boar miso hot pot and the local speciality where local buckwheat is rolled into a soba ball and then deep fried. In total, 10 dishes . At Ueno village there is the Sky Bridge which is a suspension bridge that is 90 m high and you can take a walk in the air. The suspension bridge exists in the middle of nature. All this, just one hour from the city, Head back to Nanmoku village which is a place of natural beauty surrounded by mountains and with a population iof about 3000. At the village try great tasting Charcoal Ramen at Chitoseya which is a cheap set meal restaurant for the past 100 years. Travellers from Ueno village or Nagano used to stop at the restaurant to rest and feast on the popular charcoal Ramen. It costs 700 yen (S$ 11) for the curly noodles made of locally produced charcoal.
In Nanmoku there are mountains with steep hills and a superb view called Cicada Ravine. There's also a waterfall basin and many beautiful waterfalls. The Sengataki falls is one of them standing 35m high and with one line of water falling straight down. Next, trip to Boso Peninsula in Chiba and head up north to Kujukuri-Hama Beach for superb views and seafood. It's about 55 minutes from Tokyo from Mobara station. Head first to Kujukuri-Hama beach which is about 60 km long. Along the way, visit an old established shop that specialises in dry Japanese anchovy seasoned with Mirin carefully made in a traditional process that includes sun-drying to give a deeper taste and wonderful savoury smell when grilled. Water Eggplant in Chiba is not quite so rare and if you get a chance, eat it raw for a taste experience reminiscent of an apple without flavour. Make a trip to a special spot in the area where there are more than 50 windmills. Not too far is another spot where you can see the sea all around - the Cape Gyobu observation deck. The view of Kujukuri Beach will stretch to include Iioka fishing port lined with boat and Byobugaura Cliff. The coastline is a 50m high cliff and is called Dover of the East as they resemble the English cliffs. Stay over at come to the inn in Inubosaki, called Gyoukei-Kan which is by the sea and 15 minutes from Choshi station. The sea is in front of the inn and offers a superb view to a lighthouse.Located by the Pacific, the inn was established in 1873 offer a view of the ocean from every room.
Inubo-saki Cape is the most eastern point on the main island in Japan and you can catch the last rays of sunset here. Take a relaxing open-air bath in salty hot spring waters before settling in for dinner of seafood which landed in Chishi port the same day. The spread inclues flying fish roe, deep-water shrimp, sea urchins,sea bream, and also Wakasho Beef, carefully raised in the mild Kujukuri weather and soy milk hot pot. You can make a side trip from Chosi to a forest temple with a 1000 year old Kasamori Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) via Mobara but be ready for a bus trip and a climb up 100 moss-covered steps past giant Japanese cedars. The splendid temple is built on a rock with various length of pillars. The temple is located in a dense forest and is quite hidden and high. That means a superb view from the top of the temple. Make a trip to follow the Kinu River that flows through north Kanto starting from Utsunomiya with a one hour ride by the bullet train from Tokyo. The scene changes immediately as there aren't so many high-rise buildings and the only tall building offers a superb view. Follow the river to its source into Mt. Nantai or visit Oya town, known for its Oya stones a heat resistant material, used for warehouses or walls since the old days. There's also a big statue of Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) that stand is 26 m high made over 8 years from a single slab of stone.
Go back to Utsunomiya and go up north by JR Tohoku line and get off at the first station after crossing Kinu River, which is Hoshakuji. Pick up a snack nearby from the butcher's shop which is distinct with its collection of guitars. Head to Odakisan where you can see rice fields watered by the river and its canals. The system built from ancient times is protected and was selected as one of the world's 100 best irrigation canals. Book into a hot spring ryokan along the Kinu river.It's 5 minutes from the bus stop and includes the Kagoiwa Spa.
The simple but elegant 3-storied building offers a view of the river, a rocky stretch called Kagoiwa, and strange rock formations protruding all over. There is also a view of the Nikko Mountains, Mt.
