A Big Thank You
Sunday, 07 April 2008
| UA big thank you to all Year Three students at St. Anne’s School for the presents and cards that we received in Qingdao, even though we didn’t discover them until Hawaii. We originally thought it was only a box of spare parts and it was stowed away. Only a week ago did we discover it was a box of delights to enjoy. |
The box has been well received by the crew of Uniquely Singapore. The cards were read by the crew whilst eating the toffees, Pringles and Cadbury’s eggs. The treats brought a big smile to the faces and tummies of the crew.
The teddy (Stanley) has been all over the world and into most port hostelries as well.
We’ve put Word Search in with the crew magazines and when we’re off watch we spend our time reading and completing the puzzles. Unfortunately, we do not have anybody who knows how to use the yoyo, but we will keep practising.
Wait…we’ve just discovered that Timothy can. It must be because he’s the only American on board.
You asked three questions in your cards so here are the crew’s responses:
1) What is it like being on a boat?
It is either wet and cold or sweaty and hot. It’s like being in a caravan with 15 other people where you eat, sleep and work for weeks at a time. It’s a fun place to be with lots of smiling faces and laughter. The wildlife is awesome; we have seen humped back whales with their babies travelling to Hawaii, Sperm and Killer whales, green backed turtles, albatrosses and many other birds. Dolphins have followed us on every race darting in front of the bow of the boat.
2) Are you scared?
Nobody has been scared whilst they have been sailing but sometimes the big seas and high winds make you more excited than scared. We also have a good skipper who keeps us all safe so that we can get home to our family and friends.
3) Do you miss your family?
It’s a mixed reaction from the crew. Because we are so busy, sleeping or sailing the boat, we don’t get a great deal of time to reflect upon family or friends. However the skipper is our daddy and we have crew that act as ‘mummies’ who look after the cooking each day.
