Motherwatch

After a long and restful 18 days in sunny Hawaii, believe it or not, we’re off racing again! True to our word, we got off the block with all guns blazing, sprinting off the starting line in pole position. |
The weather has been really unpredictable the last four days. Whilst at times we’d spent hours just drifting with a windseeker up, at other times we’d have to do multiple headsail and reefing changes in a single watch. The long rest in Hawaii had certainly taken a toll on our fitness as some of us were physically exhausted after the evolutions during the first two days. Apart from the occasional squalls passing overhead, everyone is enjoying the “fine” sunny weather and bouncy ride towards Santa Cruz.
Lih and I are on motherwatch today, which also means we are opposite watches in this race. However, we got 10 minutes of working together today as our watches crossed over at 8am this morning. We had just been laughing over the fact that in that few minutes, we were totally drenched and 2 lifejackets inflated, as we battled raging winds and tempestuous waves to bring down Yankee 2 and get our Yankee 3 hoisted. We’re certainly looking forward to our eight hours of sleep tonight!
Lih sends his greetings to family and friends. He hopes that they still remember his existence and are eagerly awaiting his return to Singapore with plans of treating him to big meals and tea sessions. He has presents to give out apparently (akan datang lah), if they are any incentives to jolt your memories of him.
To Ian Chan, Uncle Lawrence sends his love and belated birthday wishes on your first birthday (April 7th). Your parents may have a fit on hearing this, but my birthday wish for you is that someday you’d have the privilege and pleasure of sailing round the world on Uniquely Singapore!
