Pree-dy Good Sail
Saturday, 12 April 2008

Ahoy Landlubbers! You diligent Uniquely Singapore supporters must have realised we’ve been going North, North and away(!). |
From the warm 24°C waters of Hawaii, the sea temperature has gradually dropped to a cool 15°C. Although some of us have resisted unpacking the thermal sleeping bags (it was likened to flaking a sail when it had to be stowed) and mid-layers (untouched for half a month in Aloha land), the hibernating beanies and fleeces have started to make their good old appearances again.
We’ve been making good speed so far and have found ourselves improving two positions in the last update. Like Graham says ‘we’re bombing along!’ To add to the morale, the crew has also been treated to some excellent boat cuisine of a variety of curries, baked fish pies, freshly made banana scones and cakes and one lovely morning surprise of a continental breakfast spread.
With the downwind sailing, I’ve finally got another opportunity and this time mustered enough confidence and had acquired more experience to helm with the kite up. It was a liberating and happy mini-personal milestone, as it meant overcoming the trauma of the accidental gybe last race (for which Timothy deducted six desserts from my daily rations).
Indeed, we’ve been having a pree-dy good sail so far. Like the skipper’s instructions go: Be Bl***y Happy!
