Specially designed and built for Clipper 05-06, Uniquely Singapore will be making its second circumnavigation of the globe in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race.
The fleet of 10 Clipper 68s was built to replace the original fleet of eight Clipper 60s which had
completed four races since their debut in 1996.
The yachts are 68 feet long (20.8 metres) and the hulls are constructed from a glass fibre composite sandwich – two layers of glass fibre with a layer of balsa wood in between. This makes the hulls strong
but incredibly lightweight for their size, and that means they’re really fast, too, reaching top speeds of
a whisker under 30 knots.
Like the Clipper Race, the yachts are truly international.
The boats were designed by Englishman Ed Dubois, a renowned naval architect; the hulls were built
in Shanghai, China; the masts and sails come from Cape Town, South Africa and the winches are American.
