An Appeal in Aid of the Tsunami-Hit Communities

The recent catastrophic disaster has saddened and touched the hearts of our global community and individuals by and large. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost and displaced; property and livelihoods destroyed, and the survivors have been left with little recourse to the most basic of human needs.

The Singapore International Foundation (SIF) is appealing to you, to extend your generosity and compassion to the communities in South Asia and Southeast Asia that have been devastated by the tsunamis. A great deal now depends on what is done to offer help in our region's time of need towards rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected communities.

In our efforts to restore a measure of normalcy to the lives affected, SIF has set up a Tsunami-Affected Communities Fund (TAC Fund) and we are seeking to raise a minimum of S$1.5 million. The funds collected will be channeled to the process of re-building as well as disaster mitigation, i.e. projects which provide nutrition, clean water, housing and healthcare. We seek your assistance to help us help these communities in need.

We plan to deploy more than 50 youth volunteer teams to Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and the Maldives to undertake community infrastructure and nutritional programmes for women and children between April and June 2005. We will also send specialist volunteer teams to support long-term, sustained community development efforts of the ravaged villages.

Please help us provide the much needed assistance to the affected communities by making a donation to the TAC Fund. I have attached the details of how you can do this.

We wish you a year of hope and peace in 2005 and thank you for your support.
