Beijing ranks 41st for liveability as air pollution worsens

Beijing ranked 41st out of 294 Chinese cities in liveability due to worsening air pollution in and around the city, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a latest research report.

BEIJING: Beijing ranked 41st out of 294 Chinese cities in liveability due to worsening air pollution in and around the city, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a latest research report.

The report, issued by the National Academy of Economic Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was based on evaluations of nine factors including living conditions, city harmony and cultural competitiveness.

Southern coastal cities of Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Haikou were ranked top while east China's Shanghai city came in 10th place in the list.

Last year, more than 100 cities in China saw an average of 29.9 smoggy days in a 52-year high.

Several of China's 10 worst cities which had poor monthly air quality last year were in Hebei province, surrounding Beijing.
