HONG KONG: Hong Kong has cancelled all tours to Thailand starting from Saturday following a military coup, reported local media.
South China Morning Post on Friday said the coup triggered a “red travel alert” in the Chinese city, citing the Travel Industry Council.
70 groups consisting of 1,300 people are said to be affected by the cancellation of the tours.
Six of eight travel groups that were scheduled to set off on Friday had also reportedly called off their trips.
Vowing to halt months of political turmoil, the Thai army declared a coup on Thursday, calling a nationwide night-time curfew and ordering masses of rival demonstrators off the streets.
The army regime also suspended most of the constitution, drawing criticism from world leaders who called for civilian control to be restored.
