Knife attack in China mall kills two people

A man on Sunday (Aug 17) reportedly went on a stabbing spree at a shopping mall in China’s Jilin province, leaving two people dead and injuring 12 others.

JILIN: A man on Sunday (Aug 17) reportedly went on a stabbing spree at a shopping mall in China’s Jilin province, leaving two people dead and injuring 12 others.

According to Xinhua, the attack occurred at 3.20pm local time in Yanji city. Xinhua also said those who sustained injuries were being treated in hospital.

Local media reports named the suspect as Cui Zhenyu, a 25-year-old ethnic North Korean. The suspect was said to have had suffered depression. The local media also said investigations were ongoing.

Yanji is the seat of the Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, and it has a large section of ethnic Koreans in its population of 400,000.
