Malaysians protest against lack of cooperation in MH17 investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of Malaysians, led by the youth wings of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, protested against the lack of cooperation among the Russian and Ukraine authorities in the aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash.

They protested outside the United Nations office, as well as outside the Russian and Ukrainian embassies, where they handed over letters.

While those protesting are encouraged by the hand over of the blackboxes and the bodies of those on board, they want Russia, Ukraine and the pro-Russian separatists to cooperate with the independent investigators by sharing intelligence and information to bring the perpetrators to justice. They also demanded that Muslim victims be handled in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Shahrir Hamdan, a member of the UMNO Youth Exco, said: "As Muslims, we are really angered. We're angered by the fact that these are the ways bodies were treated. But even if you take religion out of it, it's something that is not ok, no matter what religion you profess."

Ibdillah Ishak, also a member of the UMNO Youth Exco, said: "Justice must prevail. To me, it's genocide of 298 people at 33,000 feet. To me, I believe that Mr Putin should do more than just talk. It's taken them four days to actually do something. To me, taking action only after four days -- what's going on? Are they hiding the truth?"
