BANGKOK: The Thai army has told troops to be on alert, after some soldiers received chemical-laced drinks on Monday, according to local media.

Bangkok Post reported that a soldier on duty at a Bangkok checkpoint was given a bottle of green tea from an unidentified person.

The soldier reportedly decided not to consume the drink when he realised that the beverage appeared thick and sticky.

According to Bangkok Post, a closer examination showed that chemicals had been added to the drink using a syringe and the bottle was re-sealed with hot glue.

Army commander Pairote Thongma-eng claimed some soldiers were also given fake energy drinks. He did not elaborate on the incidents.
