TOKYO: Meteorologists on Sunday said a powerful typhoon is set to strengthen into a super typhoon as it nears Japan.
Typhoon Neoguri is expected to pass near Okinawa on Tuesday, bringing torrential rain and strong winds to the island.
According to CNN, the Joint Typhoon Centre also forecast that Typhoon Neoguri could bring waves that are up to nine metres in height.
The typhoon is set to weaken after passing Okinawa, but meteorologists predicted it could still bring strong gusts when it is expected to make landfall in Kyushu late Wednesday or early Thursday.
The Hong Kong Observatory forecast that the typhoon may also affect Taiwan and the Philippines.
In addition, AccuWeather said Neoguri could bring stronger winds and heavy rain to South Korea.
