WASHINGTON: US industrial production fell 0.6 per cent in April after two months of gains, driven by lower power generation as spring temperatures swept the country, Federal Reserve data showed on Thursday.

Utility output fell 5.3 per cent, helping push overall industrial capacity utilization down 0.7 percentage point to 78.6 per cent.

Manufacturing output slipped 0.4 per cent in April, while mining output rose 1.4 per cent.

Despite the monthly fall, industrial output was up 3.5 per cent year-on-year, with the manufacturing sector up 2.9 per cent.
