The country's job market is "positive", leading to increasing hiring activity in many industries and departments, according to the recruiter's quarterly report.
SINGAPORE: The Republic's jobs market is "positive" and many employers are hiring, with transport planners and accountants some of the professionals in high demand, said Hays on Tuesday (July 8).
In a report accompanying its Quarterly Report for July to September 2014, the recruitment company said many sectors, such as accountancy, are seeing high jobs growth, while industries like banking, engineering, IT, insurance and oil and gas are looking to beef up their staff count too.
Delving into individual industries, Hays said that in the accountancy field, internal auditors are in high demand given Singapore's position as a regional hub. Compliance professionals are also sought after in response to increasingly stringent regulation and scrutiny in the financial services industry.
The report also said with Singapore's transport network facing emerging challenges, there is demand for experienced transport planners, as well as detailed design engineers within the mechanical field.
PAY NOT MAIN FACTOR WHEN PICKING JOBS
There are also more professionals preparing to enter the recruitment pool after holding out for their bonuses in the last quarter, but the report advised them to look at the long term instead of looking for short-term pay hikes in their new jobs.
"Singapore's jobs market is positive and employers are hiring, but while there is a shortage of high-level skills, employers will only increase salaries so far to secure their ideal candidate," said Mr Chris Mead, Regional Director of Hays Singapore.
"We advise professionals to focus on securing a job with greater responsibility and regional exposure which will provide long-term benefits to your career, rather than solely focusing on financial rewards."
