S'pore manufacturers upbeat on prospects in coming months

In a statement on Wednesday, the Economic Development Board (EDB) said a net weighted balance of 7 per cent of manufacturers expect favourable business prospects for April-September period.

SINGAPORE: Manufacturers in Singapore expect favourable business prospects in the six months ending September.

The upbeat outlook comes on the back of improved economic conditions in the US and Europe.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Economic Development Board (EDB) said a net weighted balance of 7 per cent of manufacturers expect favourable business prospects for April-September period.

The precision engineering cluster is the most optimistic, with a net weighted balance of 24 per cent of firms expecting better business prospects for the six months compared to a quarter ago.

For the electronics cluster, a net weighted balance of 4 per cent of firms expect business conditions to pick up for the six-month period to September 2014.

This is a turnaround from the preceding quarter, when 5 per cent of electronic firms expected deterioration.
