SINGAPORE: Encouraged by its growth success in Singapore, US-based Menlo Logistics launched its eighth facility at Benoi Road on Tuesday.
The facility will be Menlo's largest in South Asia, and it will also become Mapletree Logistics Trust's largest tenant in Singapore.
It is being leased from Mapletree Logistics Trust for an initial period of 10 years.
The facility represents a capital investment of S$127 million.
It will serve as storage and distribution warehouses, mainly catering to the wine and spirits industry.
The 50,000 square metre warehouse employs about 100 staff, of which 60 per cent are locals.
The facility will bring Menlo's total headcount in Singapore to nearly 400.
Menlo said it intends to increase its headcount at the warehouse to 125 within the next one year.
The company currently services over 200 local businesses and multi-national companies throughout the island and counts Asia Pacific Breweries amongst its clients.
Looking ahead, Menlo's President Robert Bianco said the company remains upbeat on the industry's prospects and plans to invest further in Singapore.
"We see our business in Singapore will continue to grow as a regional distribution hub because of its unique and strategic location.
"Due to the limitations on land development in Singapore, Menlo is investing in equipment to increase the density of storage in the facilities we have. We are also working with Mapletree to find other redevelopment opportunities like Benoi," said Mr Bianco.
