SINGAPORE: Sales for the services sector rose 4.9 per cent in the first quarter compared with a year ago, the Department of Statistics said in a statement on Tuesday (May 27).
All services industries saw single-digit growth for the quarter, with the health and social services sector recording the highest growth of 9.5 per cent in turnover, mainly from higher receipts by hospitals and specialised medical centres.
This was followed by the education services sector, which posted a 7 per cent increase in revenue, and the transport and storage services sector with 5.6 per cent growth, the statement said.
On a quarter-to-quarter basis without seasonal adjustments, business receipts of the services industries from the first quarter of 2014 remained consistent, increasing 0.1 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2013.
The data excluded wholesale and retail trade, and accommodation and food services.
