SINGAPORE: Singapore's beauty and personal care market has grown to US$1.46 billion in 2013, a 5.8 per cent yearly increase from 2012.
This is according to data from Euromonitor, which said Singapore's beauty and personal care market is expected to reach a value of US$1.53 billion by the end of 2014.
And when it comes to one's smile and one's crowning glory, more people are becoming less hesitant to spend on aesthetic related services to look picture perfect during the festive season.
Vendors also said they are seeing a 20 to 30 per cent jump in the number of customers at the year end.
Besides a lot of festive feasting, there will also be plenty of smiling for the cameras.
Dental clinic Smile Inc has seen their client visits swell by more than 20 per cent during the year end period.
Ernest Rex Tan, founder and director of Smile Inc, said: "Patients who want to do the work but don't find the time during the year -- it's easier to plan towards the end of the year when budgets are a little healthier. Smile Inc is well known for its laser whitening technology. We brought it in 17 years ago, and that's the most requested procedure."
Since not all smiles are the same, Smile Inc also offers a customised series of cosmetic procedures for its patients.
The clinic's basic laser whitening procedures range from S$1,500 to S$2,500, and for more bespoke procedures, it could start from S$5,000 and up.
But these prices do not deter those who place a priority on looking good.
In fact, revenues for Smile Inc also jump by about 25 per cent during the November to December period, compared to any other month in the year.
Experts said more people are turning towards teeth whitening as the results are visible and there is hardly any down time.
The outlook for cosmetic dentistry is very promising because people are more aware with social media and the internet, and the pie is getting bigger for everyone.
So for cosmetic dentistry in Singapore, it is a very visible thing as people can see the benefit and value of having cosmetic dentistry done.
Besides getting one's teeth whitened at lunch time, another popular festive procedure, especially for the ladies, is to get their hair and nails done.
But Blow + Bar does it with a twist.
Besides a myriad of hairstyles to choose from, such as an elaborate updo to a gatsby inspired coif, the year-old Blow + Bar adds champagne to the mix.
Customers who are pressed for time can opt to have their nails done while simultaneously catching up with friends over a drink like in a bar -- the whole concept on which Blow + Bar was modelled on.
Ashley Soh, director of Blow + Bar, said: "We're changing what grooming is about in Singapore. We want to make grooming fun. Women like us, nowadays we have so many roles to play. Blow + Bar has been open for a year. On a month on month basis, we see about 20 per cent increase and during the festive period, we see about 30 per cent increase."
