ST Engineering buys US flying school

The acquisition will help to grow its pilot training capabilities, to support rising global demand.

SINGAPORE: Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) announced today (May 20) it bought a flight school in the United States as part of a strategic initiative to grow its pilot training capabilities.

ST Engineering unit Vision Technologies Aerospace Inc purchased the school, called Aviation Academy of America Inc, for US$811,238 (S$1.02 million).

ST Engineering - whose aerospace arm is the world's largest provider of aircraft maintenance services - said the group wants to grow its pilot training capacity and capabilities, in light of rising global demand.

The newly acquired US school will work closely with existing pilot training businesses in Singapore and Ballarat, Australia "to offer an integrated suite of pilot training services to customers around the world", ST Engineering said in a statement.

Aviation Academy of America is a US Federal Aviation Administration-approved flight school operating at New Braunfels regional airport, which is about 56.3km northeast of ST Engineering's San Antonio-based aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility.
