KUALA LUMPUR: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has welcomed co-stars Rani Mukherjee and Madhuri Dixit to Malaysia, calling it "his country".

The Indian film icon has been adopted as a national treasure in Malaysia, a country he calls his second home.

He has even been awarded the title of Datuk, which is usually reserved for Malaysians.

SRK, as he is commonly known, said he is keen to film more movies outside India, such as in Malaysia and also across Asia.

Still, he added that he is choosing his projects carefully.

He said: "All of us want to make movies that are relevant to the place that we make it. We do not want to make movies for the sake of it.

"When we were brought here, we wanted to set it up here, show the Petronas (Twin Towers), the city and... (the) culture, make it part of the storytelling. I personally believe that if you go to these countries, you have to honour it cinematically."

India's film industry is the biggest in the world and is expected to rake in US$3.1 billion by 2017.
