Eight-member dance team TGIF (Thank God It’s Freakazoid) were crowned the winners of MediaCorp Vasantham's "Dhool V" during the dance competition's finals on Sunday.
SINGAPORE: After 11 weeks of competition, eight-member dance team TGIF (Thank God It’s Freakazoid) beat out three others during Sunday’s finals to become the grand champion of “Dhool V”, a massive televised dance competition organised by MediaCorp Vasantham.
TGIF won a cash prize of S$25,000 as well as vouchers worth S$15,000, with second-placed Mega Geniz, and third-placed Tri Force taking home prizes worth a total of S$18,000 and S$7,000 respectively.
This is the biggest payout in the history of the dance competition.
However, the real prize was getting the chance to make friends with other dance enthusiasts, said TGIF team representative, 25-year-old Yudhish Jayakumaran.
“It’s an honour to be part of this event together with so many awesome dancers.
“All of them have so much creativity, so much passion. It’s very heartwarming to be in the midst of these passionate people,” Jayakumaran said.
He added that TGIF’s win was the result of years of dedication and hard work.
“We’ve been participating in this competition since 2008.
“We usually get second, third. This year, we wanted to … give something good, to bring dance to the next level.”
“We’re very glad we succeeded in giving people good performances,” said Jayakumaran.
Apart from featuring the biggest prizes since the competition’s inception, “Dhool V” also holds the distinction of being the first edition of the dance competition to hold online auditions, and have live tweets to screen during its broadcasts.
