Veteran actor JJ Murphy collapsed and died suddenly at the age of 86, just days after filming his first scenes for the HBO drama Game of Thrones.

BELFAST: Veteran actor JJ Murphy has died at the age of 86, just four days after filming his first scenes for the HBO drama Game of Thrones.

According to local media, the Northern Irish actor collapsed and died suddenly at home on Friday (Aug 8). He had been cast as Ser Denys Mallister in the fifth season of the popular television series.

The creators of Game of Thrones said on Monday (Aug 11) that they will not be recasting Murphy.

“He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended,” wrote D B Weiss and David Benioff in a tweet.

Murphy is survived by his wife, two children and a granddaughter.

According to BBC, his funeral will be held in Belfast on Wednesday.
