SEOUL: Singer-actor Han Geng, a former member of K-pop boy band Super Junior, will appear alongside EXO’s Kris in an upcoming Chinese film, reported Korean media.
According to the media reports, which cited film industry sources, Han Geng and Kris will star in a Chinese film titled Xia You Qiao Mu, Ya Wang Tian Tang, which is based on a series of romance novels by Chinese author Zi Yue.
The film will be directed by Korean filmmaker Jo Jin-kyoo
Although these reports have yet to be confirmed by Kris, they have already generated a lot of buzz among K-pop fans, as it brings together Han Geng, who left Super Junior a few years ago after a dispute with the band’s management agency SM Entertainment, and Kris, who is currently embroiled in a legal battle to terminate his contract with the same company.
In response to these reports, a number of Internet users even suggested that K-pop trio JYJ, who also had a legal battle with SM Entertainment over contract issues in the past, should sing the theme song for the film, so that the film would hold the distinction of involving numerous ex-SM Entertainment artistes.
While there have recently been many Chinese media reports that claim the film will be a vehicle for both Han and Kris to ‘get back’ at SM Entertainment, Han said in a micro blog post on Wednesday (Aug 13) that he bore no ill will towards the company.
“SM Entertainment groomed me, and there are teachers and friends there who I respect,” said Han. “Everything I had in the past, have in the present and will have in the future stems from their help. Although we’ve chosen different ways to walk our own paths, I still wish them well in my heart.”
