Jaycee Chan arrested in Beijing drug bust

Beijing police on Monday (Aug 18) revealed that Jaycee Chan, the son of action star Jackie Chan, was arrested on Aug 14 with his actor friend, Kai Ko, after they received a tip-off from the public.

BEIJING: Beijing police on Monday (Aug 18) revealed that Jaycee Chan, the son of action star Jackie Chan, was arrested on Aug 14 with his actor friend, Kai Ko, after they received a tip-off from the public, reported Chinese media.

Police found over 100 grams of cannabis at Jaycee Chan's Beijing residence following their arrest, some of which has reportedly been in Chan's possession for over two years.

Both Ko and Jaycee Chan have admitted to taking illegal drugs and tested positive for drug use.

While Ko has been charged with drug consumption, Chan faces the more serious charge of providing a venue for drug use. Beijing police said the case is still under investigation.

In addition, Beijing police also revealed that the man who allegedly sold Chan the drugs had also been arrested with 11 grams of cannabis in his possession during a follow-up operation on Aug 15.

Beijing authorities said over 1,700 drug-related cases have been handled by the police since the beginning of the year (a 53.2 per cent increase), while over 7,800 people have been arrested for drug-related offences (a 71.9 per cent increase).
