Justin Bieber put on an electrifying show in Singapore during the first-ever Closing Concert for the Singapore Grand Prix at the Padang Stage on Monday, driving fans wild with his fancy footwork and flirtatious behaviour.
SINGAPORE: No tardiness, no monkey business and no drama.
Canadian-born US superstar Justin Bieber put on a drama-free gig with just enough flash and flirtatiousness to drive the fans wild, during the first-ever Closing Concert for the Singapore Grand Prix at the Padang Stage on Monday.
The 19-year-old singer burst onto the stage right on time to thunderous applause from the audience after an elaborate introduction video, and immediately launched into the hi-octane number “All Around the World”.
Bieber showed off some fancy footwork and threw in a few pelvic thrusts for good measure on stage, whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
Love him or hate him, Bieber is a hard worker.
By the time he was done dancing his heart out in the first portion of the show, the singer was breathing heavily into the microphone like Darth Vader, albeit a younger, better-looking (and mask-free) version of the “Star Wars” character.
He is also much better with the ladies.
“It’s hot out here isn’t it?
“Maybe it’s because of all the hot girls out here!” declared Bieber, instantly filling the Padang Stage area with screams and squeals of delight from the teenage girls in the audience.
The concert had a great start, but sagged a bit in the middle until Bieber pulled out the fan favourite “One Less Lonely Girl” and serenaded a young female concert-goer on the stage.
There was nothing but pure excitement and joy on her face, when the singer pressed close to her and touched her cheek, before hugging her.
All grown up
After a few more numbers, Bieber closed the concert with his new song “Believe”, and a video inciting the crowd to call for an encore started to play.
Frankly, it wasn’t necessary at all.
The audience was already chanting his name before the video started, and Bieber soon returned to the stage for his big finish clad in a black singlet and baggy pants.
The US heartthrob saved the best for last, stripping off his singlet for the concert’s finale - an energetic performance of his signature tune “Baby”, complete with even more pelvic thrusts and flirtatious looks.
It’s amazing to see how excited his fans were when Bieber’s singlet came off to reveal his buff bod.
Bieber seemed a lot more comfortable using his sex appeal than before.
Has Bieber gone from teen heartthrob to full-on sex symbol? Will his fans’ Bieber Fever become more severe because of this?
Those are all valid questions that one might walk away with after watching the concert finale.
But the most interesting question is why he chose to wear low-riding, super baggy pants, which required his constant attention to keep from slipping off and had exposed his unflattering white briefs, during the closing moments of the show.
That is perhaps the evening's biggest mystery.
