K-pop girl group Kara’s management agency DSP Media announced Friday that group member Nicole Jung won't be renewing her contract with the company, and Jang Jiyoung is considering her options.
SEOUL: K-pop girl group Kara’s management agency DSP Media announced Friday that group members Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, and Gu Hara have renewed their contract with the company, reported Korean media.
However, their group mate Nicole Jung has decided not to renew her contract with the company after it expires in January next year.
DSP Media added that Kara’s youngest member Kang Jiyoung is currently considering her options as well, though none of this will break Kara.
“Even if there are members who leave, Kara won’t be disbanded and will continue their activities both locally as well as overseas,” said DSP Media.
It later told Korean media that there are currently no plans to find replacements for any departing members, though this has sparked speculation that Kara may well wind up carrying on as a trio.
Jung expressed “surprise” that the management agency would go public about her contract issues just before the Kara’s concert tour in Japan, in a long tweet on Sunday.
She pointed out that she enjoys being part of Kara and hoped “to find a way to be part of the group without being an artiste with the company”.
“I love Kara and always will. Being a member of Kara is a big source of happiness for me and it can never be replaced,” said Jung.
