The 2013 sci-fi film "Pacific Rim" is getting a sequel in 2017, says its director Guillermo Del Toro.
LOS ANGELES: “Pacific Rim” director Guillermo Del Toro revealed Thursday in a promotional video clip that he is working on a sequel to the 2013 sci-fi film.
Set in the 2020s, “Pacific Rim” revolved around a group of humans who pilot giant robots called Jaegers to defend the world against huge monsters called Kaijus that have emerged from an inter-dimensional portal in the Pacific Ocean.
“I am working on this with Zak Penn and Travis Beacham, and we are all very happy to be bringing you more Kaijius, more Yeagers kicking each other’s butt,” said Del Toro.
The sequel will apparently pick up where “Pacific Rim” left off, and follow the adventures of its main characters Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) as well as Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi).
The director also told US media that “the characters I love will return” and promised that the sequel, which is scheduled for release on April 7, 2017, will have “amazing sights and battles”.
“The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast,” said Del Toro.
