Singapore actor Romeo Tan reveals he has a passion for pooches and explains why he’d make a bad entrepreneur.
SINGAPORE: He may play Liu Jun Wei, an entrepreneur who helps turn ailing traditional businesses around in the new drama “Yes We Can!”, but Singapore actor Romeo Tan says he isn’t cut out to be an entrepreneur in real life.
The actor explained that he found it incredibly difficult to do business presentations in the show, and would probably not be able to present actual business plans to real investors.
“I prefer to be an employee!” said Tan with a laugh.
However, if he had to start a business, the actor said he would open a dog-friendly café.
“I’ve always wanted to start a dog-friendly café! It would serve food for people and dogs, a cosy corner … with a good atmosphere!” said Tan.
Why a dog-friendly café?
“I loved dogs since I was young.
“I hoped to have a dog by my side and go out and play together. But I have asthma, so my mum didn’t allow me to own one."
“When I have my own home, I’ll get one. I’ll definitely have a dog in this lifetime!” declared the actor.
While it may be some time before Tan can get a dog to call his own, he will have some canine companionship when he starts working on his next project, a supernatural drama for the Toggle online platform.
Tan is set to appear alongside his “Yes We Can!” co-star Rebecca Lim, as well as Flapper, a lovable dog that has previously appeared in the Singapore film “My Dog Dou Dou”, in the new show.
He may also be involved in a few large-scale dramas later this year.
While many believe he is on track to be one of Singapore television’s top leading men, Tan feels he still has some ways to go.
“I just want to do my work well, and keep looking forward," said Tan.
“Yes We Can!” airs every weeknight, 9pm on Channel 8.
