Singapore band Imprompt-3 have been crowned the winners of Cornetto’s Ride to Fame contest, and will open for US singer Taylor Swift when she plays in Singapore in June.
SINGAPORE: Singapore band Imprompt-3 will get to open for US singer Taylor Swift during her upcoming Singapore gig in June, after beating 152 entrants to win Cornetto’s Ride to Fame Competition .
“The competition has pushed us out of our comfort zones and has really made us better musicians,” said band leader, lawyer Douglas Wong.
“I actually still find it hard to believe (that the band won). I enjoy playing music with the band but I never thought that we’d be given such an opportunity.
“It’s also very encouraging to know that people appreciate our music,” said Amos Yang, the band’s percussionist, a teacher by profession.
Wong, Yang along with the other members of Imprompt-3, Jensen Tan (keyboardist and violinist) and Mark Ng (guitarist) will be mentored by Singapore Idol winner Sezairi Sezali, who opened for Swift back in 2011, in the weeks leading up to Swift's concert.
They will then play in front of 12,000 Taylor Swift fans during her gig at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on June 12.
Wong said he is raring to go.
“My girlfriend Kate and I are massive Taylor Swift fans. We were pulling our hair out fighting to get tickets to her sold-out concert in Singapore on the first day it was released in March.
“The two of us are the main reasons that the Ride to Fame competition was thrust upon the band,” said Wong.
“Personally, I cannot wait for her to sign our guitars and for us to take a few hundred selfies with her.”
