SEOUL: Korean police revealed Tuesday that the father and grandparents of K-pop boy band Super Junior’s Lee Teuk were found dead at their home by a relative on Monday, reported Korean media.
Lee’s grandparents were lying in their bedroom, where Lee’s father was discovered hanging from a wardrobe door.
A suicide note, which is believed to have been written by Lee’s father, was found at the scene as well.
Family members said Lee’s father had been suffering from depression.
Lee’s father had been caring for his dementia-stricken parents for the past 15 years, and is believed to have decided to end their suffering, police said.
“We believe Lee Teuk’s father had first strangled his parents to death before taking his own life,” said a police spokesperson.
Lee, who is currently serving his compulsory stint in the military, has been granted emergency leave to attend to his father and grandparents’ funeral arrangements.
Condolences have poured in from the 30-year-old singer’s Super Junior band mates and his celebrity friends after the news broke.
Lee’s management company SM Entertainment has since requested that the public allow Lee and his family to grieve in peace.
