Udaya Soundari wins big at Pradhana Vizha 2014

Actress-host Udaya Soundari was the biggest winner at Pradhana Vizha 2014, an awards show which honours the best talents in the Indian television industry in Singapore.

SINGAPORE: Actress-host Udaya Soundari was the biggest winner at Pradhana Vizha 2014, an awards show which honours the best talents in the Indian television industry here, which was held at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore on Thursday (July 31).

She won the Best Actress award, Best Host (Info-Ed) award and Most Popular Female Personality award.

“I'm shocked! I'm so grateful! I'm so happy I want to cry. I cried on stage. I hate it when people go up on stage and cry but now I know why. I hate myself for doing that but I am truly happy!" gushed Udaya, adding that she was especially happy to have received the Best Actress Award.

"It means a lot because I always wanted to be an actress. Theatre is my passion. It's always something that I wanted to do but never got to because of various reasons.

"When I got the chance to do dramas in Vasantham, I've been giving them all that I have because I thought 'This is it!' Even if I got the Best Actress award five years later, I would have sulked, but it would definitely still be worth it!” said Udaya.

The Best Actor award went to actor-director Sivakumar Palakrishnan.

“I'm on cloud nine right now! I started in Vasantham. It's really an honour because Tamil is my mother tongue and I'm very proud to receive my first acting award from Vasantham. I'll never give up the language!” said Sivakumar, who had also worked on English productions like The Noose.

DANCE VETERAN MANIMARAN THORASAMY HONOURED

Other notable winners include Siva Kuma, who took home the Best Supporting Actor award and Yasini Murugayah, who won the Best Supporting Actress award.

V.Mohan won the Best Actor/Actress In A Villain Role award, while Soundrarajan Jeeva received the Best Actor/Actress In A Comedy Role award. Both award categories were newly added to Pradhana Vizha this year.

Udaya's Pradhana Vizha co-hosts Jaynesh Isuran and Saravanan Ayyavoo didn't go home empty-handed. Jaynesh won Most Popular Male Personality while Saravanan won Best Host (Variety).

Veteran dancer-choreographer Manimaran Thorasamy also received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to the industry during the show.

This year’s Pradhana Vizha was a glitzy, star-studded affair attended by about over 50 artistes from Vasantham.

The event featured performances by dance groups Suvarna Arts, Baratha Arts and Rameshwara, as well as an a capella group.
