TAIPEI: Taiwan singer-actor Wu Chun revealed Tuesday that he is married and is a father, reported Taiwan media.
“I now have a role that money can’t buy – a happy super daddy!” said Wu in a message posted on his official fan website.
He revealed that his wife, with whom he has a daughter, is his first girlfriend and has been with him for over 18 years, since they were 16.
“She has been with me through a countless number of life’s up and downs … even till today, she is behind me, supporting me,” said Wu.
Wu added that he had previously refused to tell the media about their relationship and their child because he respected her decision to maintain a low profile.
“Really, I derive joy from sharing my happiness.
“Not being able to share a joyous event like becoming a father was a very difficult thing for me,” said the 33-year-old star, before apologizing for the sudden announcement.
Wu, who made his showbiz debut in 2005 as part of the Taiwan boy band Fahrenheit, quickly received well-wishes from his band mates.
“Wow! He is so brave. I wish him well. He will definitely be a good father,” said band mate Aaron Yan.
“I believe having the support of a family would allow him to do even more things. We, as his brothers, wish him well,” said Fahrenheit’s Calvin Chen.
In contrast, some media outlets expressed disappointment that Wu had repeatedly denied their claims about him being married and being a father back in 2011, and had even threatened to sue over the matter, even though he knew it was true.
They also pointed out that Wu's revelation came just before the launch of his new book "Ignite Courage", and speculated that it was a calculated move to create buzz for it.
