This year's theme focuses on the professional development of teachers, recognising their roles in preparing students with the skills to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Teachers' Union played host to the 30th ASEAN Council of Teachers' (ACT) Convention on Friday (Aug 22).

Involving some 500 educators from the region, the annual convention provides a platform for them to share, discuss and collaborate on educational projects of mutual benefit. This year's theme focuses on the professional development of teachers, recognising their roles in preparing students with the skills to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

"Education is a very important area of cooperation in ASEAN, and we recognise that it is important for our students to be outward-looking, to understand social and cultural contexts, and to appreciate the values of regional cooperation and good neighbourliness," said Education Minister Heng Swee Keat.

"So it is important that our respective ministries of education establish more opportunities for learning and for multilateral cooperation, and in that way, we can bring about a stronger ASEAN from better education of our students."
