SINGAPORE: Some 550 swimmers, including 80 seniors, took part in the North West SwimSafer Day event on Sunday afternoon.
Held at the Woodlands Swimming Complex, the event included a Fun Swim segment to encourage beginners, especially seniors, to build up self confidence.
As an encouragement, the participants received a gift when they met certain milestones -- on completing five, 10 and 20 laps.
The other segment -- the NUS Splashdown -- was a five-kilometre swimathon for experienced and competitive swimmers.
Sunday's event also included a lifesaving demonstration, which was conducted to complement the water safety skills being highlighted.
It was organised by North West Community Development Council and National University of Singapore University Lifeguard Corps.
