55 students awarded MCI scholarships

Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim said the expertise that the scholars will gain and the information collected will create new products and services to make Singapore a better place for all.

SINGAPORE: Fifty-five recipients were awarded the Ministry of Communications and Information scholarships at a ceremony on Thursday (Aug 21).

Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim, who was at the presentation ceremony, said more ideas are needed to make Singapore a SMART Nation. He said the expertise that the scholars will gain and the information collected will create new products and services to make Singapore a better place for all.

One scholarship recipient is Singapore Management University student Ms Beh Min Yan. The Information Systems Management student is looking forward to focusing on information security and aims to be a change agent in the industry.

Ms Beh said: "Generally, there is a lack of talent in this sector, especially for females. So I am just hoping to be a source of inspiration to the other females who are actually interested in pursuing this."
