Athletics: Singapore's Shanti wins 200m silver in Taipei Asian Juniors

Singapore's athlete Shanti Pereira set a new national women's 200-metre record of 23.99 seconds at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Taipei on Sunday.

SINGAPORE: Singapore's athlete Shanti Pereira set a new national women's 200-metre record at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Taipei on Sunday.

She clocked 23.99 seconds to win a silver medal, beating the previous record of 24.12 seconds, which she had set at the Southeast Asian Games in December.

She won a bronze in the 100m event earlier.

The silver medal is the best result a Singaporean has recorded at an Asian junior track meet.

Shanti won a bronze medal at the last Asian Juniors in Sri Lanka two years ago.
