Aviation helps fulfil Singapore’s role as international business centre: DPM Teo

SINGAPORE: Aviation helps fulfil Singapore's role as an international business centre and trading hub, said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean at the official opening ceremony of the Singapore Airshow on Monday.

Mr Teo added that while aviation enhances Singapore's position as a global city, efforts are still being taken to meet the demand for air transport.

"In the most significant expansion of Changi Airport since its opening in 1981, we will introduce a third commercial runway at Changi, and add a new Terminal 5, to meet the growing demand for air transport in this region.

“These initiatives will grow Changi Airport by 1,080 hectares, and double our passenger capacity from the current 66 million per year to 135 million per year, when completed in the mid-2020s,” he said.
